Transform your funding applications from rejected to funded with a well-crafted, competitive artist statement. The artist statement is an opportunity to demonstrate to review committees that you are a thoughtful, deliberate writer who takes your literary career seriously. You'll need a version of this statement on your grant, fellowship, and artist residency applications, as well as on your author web page and for MFA program scholarships. In this workshop:
- you'll learn how to cast your work in its strongest, most evocative lightyou'll read statement examples and learn how vetting committees use them
- through an extensive series of prompts, you'll generate ideas on how to talk about your work
- you'll craft, workshop, and revise a first draft.
- you'll earn about literary funding and residency opportunities for your writing project, opportunities where this statement would strengthen your candidacy.
This workshop is open to writers of all genres, including fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, songwriting, and graphic novels. Participants should be comfortable sharing work with their classmates and using a computer to do research.
NOTE: Participants who are interested in receiving in-depth written critique from the instructor will turn in a draft after Session I, meeting again in Session II on February 7 to review feedback and refine a final draft.
